HOW LIFE SHOP WORKS

Life Shop is set up so that it can work for any teen in the way they want it to. There are a huge variety of shops offered whenever there isn’t school going on. Those shops like Open Shop where kids can just come hang out and play whatever they want or organized class type shops where teens can learn new skills like working on cars, yoga, or first aid. Check out the list of classes offered on the schedule. Teens can either get an unlimited membership to use all that Life Shop has to offer or they can buy a specific number of hours to use at Life Shop. They also have the opportunity to volunteer at Life Shop doing something we need help with and receive credit hours to use at Life Shop in return. It really is everything that any teenager needs or wants to be and live the best life they can.

OUR MISSION

The mission of Life Shop is to provide a place for teenagers 7th-12th grade to go where they feel welcome that they can play, socialize, and relax. In addition to that, the mission is to provide a large variety of ways for teens to try new things, learn new things, grow with those new skills, and apply them to their lives. Life Shop aims to facilitate the development of teens so that they can find joy in hard work and play and become adults that contribute to society and enjoy life.

Meet the Brown Family

We met when we were students in college. We were drawn to each other because we saw that we both had a lot of drive and passion for the things that meant a lot to us. We felt like we could help and support each other in doing great things, working hard, but also playing really hard too. One of the mottos we live by individually, as a couple, and with our family is to Work Hard, Play Hard. Claire has always been passionate about helping people, and she found that she had a love and appreciation for teenagers and what they go through at that stage of life. That led her to becoming a High School English teacher. She taught in the inner city of Washington, D.C. and also here locally at Alta High School before having kids. Brian is a very hard working, driven entrepreneur who is always looking for ways to succeed in business and life in general, and really he is just a big kid who loves to have fun. He loves to play, try out fun toys, activities, and think outside the box. He is always looking at a fun activity trying to make it even more exciting. We now have 4 kids, ages 9-16 who are active and busy and like most kids love to do fun things and enjoy being around other kids their age.

HOW LIFE SHOP BEGAN

As our kids have gotten older and become teenagers, we have a lot of kids coming in and out of our house, and we love that. Having teenagers coming in and out of our house all the time has made us see a need for a place for all kinds of teenagers to be where they feel welcome and safe. We’ve also realized that there are so many skills and hobbies that kids want to do, and they are missing a place or a way to learn those skills. Our 4 kids have been a huge part of deciding what and how to make these things possible for other kids. We spent a lot of time talking as a family about this, and all of that brought us to the idea of Life Shop, where a teenager can make life all they want it to be.
